What to leave at home
- Any firearm, ammunition or even a single stray bullet. Mexico's penalties are severe, and US travelers have been arrested over a single forgotten round in a bag. See entry rules.
- Expensive jewelry and watches. They draw attention and you won't need them, even at resorts.
- A plug adapter. Mexico uses US plugs and 127-volt power, so US electronics work as they are.
- Fresh fruit, meat and plants. Mexico's agricultural inspectors can confiscate them on arrival, and the US limits what comes back. See bringing things home.
- Drones, unless you've checked the rules. Many archaeological sites and parks ban them.
